'New Moon' Soundtrack: A Track-By-Track Breakdown

'New Moon' Soundtrack: A Track-By-Track Breakdown

MTV 'New Moon' Soundtrack: A Track-By-Track Breakdown

The "Twilight" soundtrack — featuring music from Paramore, Linkin Park and some guy named — has, to date, sold nearly 2.3 million copies in the U.S. alone and has been a rare bright spot for the music business in these dire times (well, it and Taylor Swift albums).

Compared with Taylor, the "New Moon" soundtrack — which was rush-released on Friday (October 16) to combat early leaks — boasts contributions from the likes of Thom Yorke, Lykke Li and Grizzly Bear (not to mention a first single from Death Cab For Cutie), is pretty dark. It is, as I wrote earlier this week "Music for the masses — or at least the masses who wear glasses and own record players and bought tickets to the Pavement reunion."

Indeed, music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas has compiled what many are calling the indie album of the year, and it's hard to argue with that claim.

Opening with a pair of straightforward jangly/jittery indie tunes, Death Cab's "Meet Me On the Equinox," (which, if you are alive, you've heard by now) and Band of Skulls' "My Friends," the "New Moon" soundtrack quickly downshifts with Thom Yorke's buzzing "Hearing Damage" and Lykke Li's ethereal "Possibility," two thoroughly angsty, artfully sparse standouts that would seem out of place, if not for the murky waters that follow.

The Killers channel Lou Reed on the somber "A White Demon Love Song," which slowly builds to a minor crescendo (and one seriously slippery) guitar solo. Singer/songwriter Anna Marie gets all breathy on "Satellite Heart" and indie icons Bon Iver and St. Vincent do what they do best — churchly, ghostly stuff — on "Rosyln."

The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club do their dark and windswept best with "Done All Wrong," Grizzly Bear's "Slow Life" is hazy, dreamy atmospheric pop and the Editors' "No Sound But the Wind" is a piano-laden ballad buoyed by frontman Tom Smith's brooding baritone.

Of course, there are a few moments of light scattered throughout the darkness. "Twilight" faves Muse contribute a remixed version of "I Belong To You" (the original can be found on their just-released album The Resistance) and it's very much a Muse tune, all stadium-sized vocals and fist-pumping guitars. The Hurricane Bells' "Monster" surges along on a super-skuzzed guitar line, Sea Wolf's "The Violet Hour" is classic swoony indie-pop and OK Go chime in with "Shooting the Moon," which, with its timpani punch and oddball sound effects, is an unexpected highlight, sounding very much like a mid-decade Flaming Lips' cast-off.

All in all, it's a very fine soundtrack. But it's also a decidedly left-of-center one, full of minor-key contributions from comparatively left-field artists. Here's to hoping it introduces those artists to millions of new and rabid fans .

The Top 10 Twilight Saga Merchandise -- do you have yours yet?

Where to start in the mountain of products associated with the phenomenon that is Twilight? There’s simply so much of it. And with good reason too. The love story between high school student Bella (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) has captivated a generation. Its influence has been felt in all number of circles – from fashion (everything worn by Bella, Edward and Alice (Ashley Greene) has become a wardrobe must-have), to music (the internationally bestselling soundtrack has broken records), from cars (Volvos have become popular through association with Edward) to tourism (many of the sites from the film now host guide tours). It’s an exhaustive list and with the much-hyped sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon on the way, it shows no sign of slowing down.

With all these options available, it’s difficult to know how best to show your love for the emerging film franchise. Or so it was, however we’ve done all that for you, rounding up some of the most exciting Twilight-related merchandise on offer today. So whether you’re new to the Stephenie Meyer story and starting your collection, or a long-time devotee eager for new trinkets, we’ve got you covered with ten different memorabilia ideas for you to sink your (vampire) teeth into!

10. 2009/10 18 month Calendar

Schedule time to daydream about Twilight with this 18 month calendar. It starts in July of this year (so you haven’t already missed any) and continues until the end of 2010. Just think, by then you’ll have seen The Twilight Saga: New Moon! With great colour stills from the film featuring all of your favorite characters it’s a gorgeous wall decoration and useful resource all in one fantastic package.

9. Posters

Add some Twilight charm to your living space with posters of the movie. Huge sellers for months now, there is a massive range of Twilight-themed posters out there, ones that show just Edward, others that feature Edward and Bella and some that invite the Cullen clan and the Nomads into the frame. If you’ve already got plenty of posters with no room for any more, why not try something a little more unusual like this life-size standee of Edward? Measuring over 6-foot-tall, this enforced cardboard cut-out isn’t the real thing, but he’s the closest we’ve got!

8. Keyrings

Keyrings are a great way to show your loyalty to a movie in an understated and subtle manner. They’re also genuinely useful and practical on a day-to-day basis and as such help you carry around something fun with you on your travels. We love these keyrings and they make terrific gifts (Hint!Hint!) One features the family crest of the Cullens, the other doubles for a bag charm complete with the Twilight logo, red heart and apple. Ideal for on the go Twilight fun.

7. Companion books

Think you know all there is to know about Twilight? You will once you’ve read these two books. The Companion takes you behind the cameras on the production of Twilight, with exclusive colour photographs, storyboards and all the gossip on everything from locations to costumes. The Notebook is precisely that, an intimate look at creating the movie from the woman who sat in the director’s chair, Catherine Hardwicke. She explains from her unique perspective how she coordinated certain scenes and reveals set secrets bolstered by sketches, notes and much more. And to help with your reading of these titles, why not grab the Twilight bookmark?

6. Chain wallet

Emulate the rock star cool of Nomad James (Cam Gigandet) with this chain wallet. The bloodsucking baddie is seen wearing one in the movie and we love this Twilight-branded wallet with chain. It features the logo and the much-loved Cullen crest along with a small charm of Edward. It’s a bargain and like the keyrings, a wallet is an indispensable part of everyday life, so why not enjoy one from your favorite film?

5. Jewelery

Whether you want something delicate and feminine or more robust and neutral, Twilight-inspired jewelery is your one-stop shop. Choose from a romantic heart pendant with the quote “I dream about being with you forever”, a charm bracelet decorated with red beads and metallic miniatures of a lion, a lamb, the apple, the Cullen family crest and the Twilight logo or the more economic and low-key option of a pair of rubber bracelets swearing allegiance to “Team Edward”. Guaranteed to perk up any outfit.

4. Games

Put yourself in the thick of the action with these games based on the movie. The board game invites you to demonstrate your Twilight knowledge, pitting your wits against your friends to see who is the ultimate expert on the vampire saga. If direct competition doesn’t appeal, how’s about something more sedate and relaxing like this Twilight jigsaw puzzle? Using the famous publicity still of Edward and Bella flanked by the Cullens and the Nomads, this is one chilled out way to celebrate your love for the quirky romance. Great fun for a slow Sunday afternoon.

3. Clothing & Body shimmer

Dress to impress with these Twilight T-shirts. Work up a sweat in the baseball one which has blue sleeves, a white body and blue pinstripes (excellent Cullen colors) and is decorated with the Twilight logo on the front and reads “Forks High School Athletic Dept.” on the back. The other tees are more simplistic, black in colour and with quotes emblazoned on the chests in white. They’re all available in a wide range of sizes and are fashioned from 100 percent cotton. Finish the look with some vampire shimmer courtesy of this iridescent powder from Hot Topic that will transform you from mere mortal to exquisite immortal.

2. Character replica jewellery

Complete the look of your favourite Twilight character with these incredibly detailed replicas of the Cullen clan’s crest jewellery. Amazingly popular, these lovingly created items are reasonably priced and have been scoring rapturous reviews with fans across the Internet. If Alice is your fashion pin-up, get her ribbon choker. If Rosalie’s (Nikki Reed) ice queen style is more you, opt for her elegant pendant and if you feel an affinity with the gentle Esme (Elizabeth Reaser) choose the bracelet. For men, there’s the leather wrist cuff as most memorably modelled by Edward, but also his brothers Emmett (Kellan Lutz) and Jasper (Jackson Rathbone). Complete Cullen cool.

1. Carrying case & Music jewelery box

Delivering a more unusual and novel dose of movie merchandise is this pair of gorgeous household items. The carrying case radiates vintage charm and is just the place to hoard all your Twilight treasures. It’s decorated with an image of Edward and Bella coupled with the quote “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb” and is for the truly discerning fan that has everything. As is the music jewelery box that boasts the same image and quote. Inside is a removable locket of the Cullen family crest and to hear “Clair de Lune”, the Debussy music heard in Edward’s bedroom in the film, simply wind up!

Meet Jack Black (New Moon Trailer)

First Look at New Moon's Evil Volturi

Prepare to be scared.

In New Moon, the second installment in Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular Twilight saga, readers are first introduced to the ancient ruling class of vampires known as the Volturi. Determined to capture their creepy menace for his screen version opening Nov. 20, New Moon director Chris Weitz has given them custom-crafted blood-red eyes.

"They're all hand-painted, specially manufactured contacts," Weitz tells PEOPLE. "They're opaque red, almost like preying mantis eyes. You can't really see into them. There's something terribly off-putting about it."

British actor Michael Sheen (The Queen) plays Aro, leader of the Italian blood-sucking clan. Although Aro and his brothers Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) and Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) have been "alive" for thousands of years, Weitz says he "deliberately" gave them a younger look in the film – for which he credits author Meyer.

"Stephenie was very keen to steer away from a kind of wizard-y look for the vampires," says Weitz. "They do look quite young, but they convey a formality and self-possession, which comes from age."

Perhaps most lethal of all the Volturi is Jane (Dakota Fanning), an angelic-looking vampire who inflicts torture on her victims. "She is very strange and very spooky in this movie," says Weitz. "I think [Dakota] wanted to play an evil character for once."

Your First Look at Twilight New Moon’s Volturi Vampires

Here’s your first look at the Volturi vampires from the Chris Weitz’s upcoming “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” in full costume. Okay, just their face, because apparently Summit Entertainment has yet to release the official promo arts, but that didn’t stop someone from getting their hands on them and creating this little nice row call sheet anyway. Question: did they really have to “make up” Dakota Fanning’s face? The girl looks creepier without the makeup, but maybe that’s just me. First, a little bit about them:

The Volturi are the equivalent of a royal family to vampires. They operate from the city of Volterra, Italy. The Volturi have existed for at least three thousand years, if not more. They are the largest coven in existence, followed by Carlisle’s family and Tanya’s. However, they do not follow a “vegetarian” diet, as seen in New Moon, in which they capture and murder several humans in a carefully planned “meal”. They are considered the de facto royal family of vampires, as they are the largest and most influential coven in existence . The Volturi deal swiftly and decisively with anything they consider a threat to their city, or the vampire world. They destroy anyone who attempts to overthrow them, or resist their authority and, at Caius’ insistence, have hunted werewolves (true werewolves, not shape-shifters) to near extinction in Europe and Asia.

Are they back together?!?!?!

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were spotted out together in L.A. on Thursday night, just days before they begin filming 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.'

Rob and Kristen enjoyed a Bobby Long concert in Beverly Hills, watching from the privacy of a veiled area on stage, says People.com. After the show, a cab spirited them off into the night.

'Eclipse,' the third chapter in the 'Twilight' saga, is scheduled to begin production on August 17. Meanwhile, the saga's eagerly anticipated second film, 'New Moon,' rises in theaters on Nov. 20.

'Twilight''s Peter Facinelli Muscles Up for 'Eclipse'

'Twilight''s Peter Facinelli Muscles Up for 'Eclipse'
Copyright 2009 Peter Sorel / Summit Entertainment. All rights reserved.

When Peter Facinelli starts rehearsals for 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,' he and Robert Pattinson and the rest of the gang will be spending a whole week on fight training.

"What happens in 'Eclipse' is Victoria comes back and she builds an army of new-born vampires, which are basically new-bitten vampires that are blood-crazed," Peter tells ET. "She is trying to get this army to come after us so she can get to Bella, so we team up with the werewolves to attack these newly bitten vampires."

Peter is leaving for rehearsals for the new movie today, and he says that there are two weeks of rehearsals before the fight training, so his wife Jennie Garth and his girls will probably come up to visit.

"I try not to go more than two weeks without seeing the kids," he says. "That is my general rule. After two weeks, it gets to be too long and the kids are, 'Who are you?' I am on 'Eclipse' for three months. I will go back and forth. I am going to have them come up for the fight training so they can see what dad does."

The 35-year-old actor says he considers the 'Twilight' cast his second family: "We are really like a family off and on set. I love each and every one of the cast members like they are my kids."

As soon as 'Eclipse' wraps, Peter will start shooting the second season of his Showtime series, "Nurse Jackie."

"What is fun for me is to play two characters that have the same occupation, but they are 180 degrees apart," he tells ET.

"Nurse Jackie" airs Monday at 10:30 p.m. 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' opens in theaters on November 20, 2009.

Reelz Channel interview with Christian Serratos

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Shooting for “New Moon” has wrapped quite a while ago, as fans must already know, with the entire cast preparing now to start work on the third film. With November still a long way to go, when the second installment comes out, Taylor Lautner is doing his best to keep fans on his toes, as shown in his latest interview with HitFix.

The interview took place back in May but, for reasons not disclosed, it’s just now that the publication is running it. It comes to perfectly accompany a photo that was just released by Summit Entertainment, showing Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) having a very intense moment inside a car, where it can be easily seen both that Bella is toying with her friend and that Jacob is desperately in love with her.

Speaking of which, Taylor tells HitFix it was initially hard for him to get to understand and become the character he’s playing. Once he did, though, he felt immense pity for him. “I don’t feel bad one bit; I feel bad for myself! (Laughs.) No, when I was reading the books, I felt so bad for Jacob’s character. But now that I’m actually living him, I feel way worse. Bella’s toying with Jacob! I don’t care if she’s ripped between the two guys, I feel so bad for Jacob, because she confused him; one moment, she’ll want to kiss him, and the next moment, she’s ditching him for Edward. I mean, yeah, I understand where Bella’s coming from, and it’s a crappy situation for all of them. But I feel really bad for Jacob.” the young actor explains.

If Taylor feels bad for Jacob, he is clearly not alone. Aside from the female admirers who are dying with anticipation for “New Moon” to be released and thus see just how many times Jacob will appear shirtless, there are also those who would rather choose Jacob before Edward because of the unrequited love story. According to Taylor, it’s precisely this love triangle that the movie is trying to place plenty of emphasis on, while the increased attention has only made the cast and producers be more aware that they’re being watched and, thus, invest more in their work.

“We know what we’re making this time around. I mean, for the first film, we really had no idea we were making a big film, we just knew that we were all in love with the series and wanted to make a great movie. But we didn’t know that all the people were going to fall in love with the movie and it was going to be as big as it was. Now, we’re coming into ‘New Moon,’ you know, with a little bit more pressure, but we’re trying to push that behind us and not think about that, and stay focused on what we need to do.” Taylor says of the difference between “Twilight” and “New Moon.”

Read about New Moon's 3000 year old vampire, Marcus

ScifiWire has an exclusive Q&A with Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays Marcus in New Moon. Here is an excerpt where he talks about his role:
"He's one of the oldest vampires on the planet, and who doesn't want to play a 3,000-year-old vampire?" Heyerdahl said. "The cast that I get to work with, like Michael Sheen. ... We had so much fun goofing off together. It was an absolute hoot. Director Chris Weitz's version for this piece is like a Renaissance painting. The images were absolutely beautiful, and the character is such a tragic old fellow."Heyerdahl adds: "Here's how I approach him. When Marcus is brought in, he's there against his will. He and his love tried to leave an awfully long time ago. Through a series of tragic circumstances, the love of his life was killed, and he's now being forced to stay and use his powers for the betterment of the Volturi. He's not exactly there, waking up and looking forward to eternity. When Edward and Bella come walking in, his ability to sense the power of their connection is something that wakes him up, brings him back from the boredom of that eternal life and sparks something in him that brings Marcus as close to excitement as he can get. That idea has to be contained and expressed as little as possible to his rather power-hungry captain-in-arms, Aro, which makes for a rather interesting conflict. You might not know it, but Marcus is pretty darn excited by this love that he witnesses. At the same time, it causes him great pain with the memory of what he had and lost. It was very complex to play, especially when you are doing it with so few lines. It will be interesting to see how it is cut together."

** Spoiler ! ** Filming of New Moon Porsche scene

Friday, July 10, 2009

"Shoot," I muttered when the paper sliced my finger; I pulled it out to examine the damage. A single drop of blood oozed from the tiny cut.

It all happened very quickly then.

Edward threw himself at me, flinging me back across the table...

I tumbled down to the floor by the piano, with my arms thrown out instinctively to catch my fall, into the jagged shards of glass. I felt the searing, stinging pain that ran from my wrist to the crease inside my elbow.

Dazed and disoriented, I looked up from the bright red blood pulsing out of my arm—into the fevered eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires.

****

For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella could ever have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of one evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may be just beginning...

New Moon Set Script found in Trash Bin in St Louis!

the-twilight-saga-new-moon

AP- A St. Louis beauty salon owner accidentally happened upon one of the hottest Hollywood scripts — the pages from an upcoming “Twilight” sequel — in a trash bin.

Casey Ray found two scripts, one for the vampire sequel “New Moon” and one for a different movie titled “Memoirs.” She decided to return them to the studio making the films. In return, she was invited to attend the movies’ premieres, her lawyer said.

Ray recently was waiting for her fiance to finish work when she spotted two scripts in a trash container. She was outside a hotel where actors were staying during a St. Louis shoot for the upcoming George Clooney movie, “Up in the Air.”

It’s not clear how the scripts wound up in the bin.

The Clooney movie includes actress Anna Kendrick, who is also in the “Twilight” vampire movie. A spokeswoman for Kendrick, Lisa Perkins, said the actress wouldn’t have left scripts lying around.

When Ray found the scripts, she considered leaking them to a national tabloid but decided against it, said her lawyer, Al Watkins.

“My client didn’t really want to get paid,” he said, but she was interested in hanging onto the scripts as collector’s items.

Watkins helped her return them to Los Angeles-based Summit Entertainment LLC, the studio making the movies. He said the studio invited Ray to premieres for the two films, and will certify the scripts as authentic after the movies are released.

“Summit doesn’t comment on any of the deals it does,” Summit spokesman Paul Pflug said. But he added, “We thank Ms. Ray for doing the right thing.”

The “Twilight” movies are based on the novels of Stephenie Meyer, so many of the plot turns are well known to readers. But keeping the “New Moon” script written by Melissa Rosenberg out of the public eye preserves which elements of the book will be included in the films, Pflug noted.

Last year’s original “Twilight” film grossed over $350 million worldwide.
